Back to reality

Published on April 1, 2006

Here is a great thread on myths in home recording. It was started by Fletcher of Mercenary Audio.
If you do know who Flectcher is you must not have been paying attention in the class about who’s who on the internet and recording. This man know his stuff and is not afraid to use […]

If I could only…..

Sort of neat website.  Lots of guitar/bass/drum/etc info, but certain links have neat info on the recording end of things.  Not really super technical, but a really good time waster if your a geek like me.  Plus they do a great interview with the Soledad Brothers, who generally rock my world.

Blog update

Published on March 24, 2006

PAS/CAL have finally updated their recording blog!
It was worth the wait, as several different sessions are covered (guitar, keyboard and drum overdubs), and they link to a great picture of Sterling Morrison from the Velvet Underground (my favorite all-time guitard player).

Old School microphones

Here is a great site.  I have found much information about some of the microphones I use like the Electro-Voice 635 and Electro-Voice 664.
The site offers great descriptions of the microphones, sound clips of the microphones, technical specs and even sales-type sheets.
The creator of the site (S. O. Coutant) has put alot of effort into it and […]

Gear Porn

Published on March 13, 2006

This web site, Recording Consoles of the 20th Century, is a spot on the old innerweeb where if you are a geek like me you could spend hours.
Multi-track tape recorders galore, recording consoles of every shape and size, outboard gear from a-z, etc…
It isn’t updated frequently and it isn’t as comprehensive as it could be, but it […]

Adam Lazlo at Analog Electric sure is a busy man.  He is very good at keeping his journal update with good information.  You can also listen to the results of some of the recording he is writing about.
They recording quality is excellent…… Wow.

Recording studio blog

PAS/CAL has updated their blog again.  The beds are done and now they are going to overdub.  They make beautiful music, I have their files in constant rotation in my player.
No studio clock watching in the 21st century.  Just creating.
Hopefully they will post more photos of what they are doing.

PAS/CAL blog update

It seems the guitarist has flown to join the band for their sessions.

In one of the pictures you can see an old Gibson amp mic’ed up, and they mention using a Harmony hollowbody. I can attest to the breaking up sound they mention.
It is one of the most lovely guitar sounds to my ears. […]

Here is another recording studio blog:
http://analogelectric.livejournal.com/
It is from a recording studio in Minneapolis, Minnesota called AnalogElectric, run by a fellow named Adam Lazlo Rutkowski.  The studio looks lovely.  A nice D & R Orion console, a Otari MTR90 2” and Nuendo.  What else could you want?
The blog is really good and informative.  Lots of technical […]
